My list of epic, self-centered proportions

Published by Cara Lageson under General

A very special person has inspired me recently. One thing in particiular that I was inspired to do was to write a list of things that I’d like to accomplish, learn or just do before I turn 25. I know that doesn’t leave me much time…actually, it leaves me less than 6 months. But, I figured I’d make this list pretty managable then then my next list to do before I’m 30 will be longer.

I decided to share this with everyone because I’d really like my friends to play a part in these life experiences right along with me. I would be nothing without the wonderful people in my life.  With that said, I’ll be updating my progress of this list as I go along, videos and all!  That even includes my running.  For anyone who knows me personally, you’ll laugh at the thought of me running, but hey, I’m going to make it happen.  I’d really appreciate any feedback about my list and my progress.  Trust me, it will help!

Anyways, this should be interesting to say the least. So, here goes nothing…or possibly my biggest something…

1.) Start working at a legit news station – By this I mean I really don’t care what position I have there. Just SOMETHING. I just want to get my foot in the door. Besides, I know I’m good enough.

2.) Model for another photo shoot – This is strictly for me. It’s one of the most freeing, empowering thing I’ve ever done for myself and I want to give it another go while I still have the body for it. I would encourage every woman out there to do it. If you’re ever feeling down about yourself, get yourself out there and do what makes you feel beautiful.

3.) Run a 5-10K Race – This should be interesting considering I hate running.

4.) Get icarabout.com running above and beyond it’s potential

5.) Start learning the cello again – Music has always played a huge role in my life as a creative and emotional outlet. Lately I’ve been missing that in my world and I really need it back.

6.) Ride a horse – Don’t ask…I just want to.

7.) Network more and share my ideas – I have great ideas for Cleveland, I just need to act on them and know how to make them happen.

8.) Learn to fish

9.) Make my parents proud of me – They claim they already are…but I’ve haven’t really done much to earn it. I want to give them a reason to be proud when they talk about their daughter. That WILL happen this year, guaranteed.

10.) Get a tattoo/work on getting past my phobia of needles – I’m sure you can see how these two go hand-in-hand. Although I’m still on the fence about the tattoo, it would be a very tasteful (I know that’s hard for some of you to imagine, but I promise it would be), meaningful and small piece of art in a hidden place.

Too be continued…

Sick of the club scene? Me too!

As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, I’ve recently started working at Gillespie’s Map Room on W9th, in the Warehouse District. I wanted to write a nice review for this bar in particular because I honestly love it! That is really why I applied there. The vibe is so laid back, chill and it’s just a great place to hang out if you’re sick of the W6th club scene.

Today, I noticed that a good friend of mine, who’s also a fellow Baldwin-Wallce graduate, wrote an AMAZING review for the Map Room on pickofcleveland.com. So, I figured instead of posting my biased opinion, I’d showcase a fabulous article by my friend, Zephylia Khooblall.  Besides, it’s a very well written piece and I’m so happy that another BW grad is breaking into the lovely world of journalism. :)

So, if you’d like to know more about one of the coolest bars in Cleveland, please check

Side Note: I posted the Cleveland National Airshow on my events calendar and if I’m not mistaken, Map Room is hosting the official kick-off on Friday, Sept. 6th. I’ll keep you posted on this.

It’s been a while, but I’m back!

Published by Cara Lageson under Bars, Cara, General, Life

Hello all! I know I’ve been M.I.A. for a while, but I’m glad to say that I’m back and ready to post more fun things to experience around Cleveland!

A lot has happened since my last posts…I won’t bore you with most of it. To start, I moved from Cleveland Heights back home to Painesville temporarily to save some money. It’s definitely a hike to work everyday, and we ALL know how wonderful my driving skills are. I was living in an apartment with my sister in the “Heights” and she decided to move to LA to live with her boyfriend. I’m so excited for them and all the new opportunities they’re sure to find out on the west coast! By the way, I’ll have to post a link to her boyfriend, Matt’s music. He’s an amazing composer and musician. Keep your eyes and ears open for that soon.

I’ve also switched my part time bartending gig from Bodega on Coventry, to The Map Room in the Warehouse District of downtown Cleveland. There’s really not much to tell as far as leaving that place. There weren’t enough summer hours to go around and I needed a change of scenery. Anyways, I’m really enjoying my new job! It’s pretty much the coolest place in the district if you ask me, but I’ll be posting something separately for the Map Room soon.

The biggest news lately is that I’ve made my professional news demo reel! I’ve recently traveled to the beautiful city of Chicago to meet up with Bob Hillman, a brilliant man who has been in the industry for years and years. He coached me through the process and helped me produce a fabulous reel! I even got to see a live newscast from the Fox studios in Chicago! I would definitely recommend his services to anyone looking for great advice about breaking into the industry. Hopefully I will soon enough. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask!

Here is the final product! Feedback is welcome. :)

By the way, I’m filling up an event calendar for the site! Send me any events/shows/galleries/etc. that you’ve heard about in the Cleveland area and I’ll make sure to post it! If you’d like to see my resume page, check it out at caralageson.com .
