Hilarities With Three Jewish Women

Published by Cara Lageson under Bars, Cara, General, Shows, restaurants

Yesterday I got invited by my Aunt Stephanie to go see a comedy show at Hilarities on E4th St with 3 Jewish women. I’ve been to this venue before and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, so of course I said yes!

For those of you who haven’t ventured to this club, it’s in the basement of Pickwick and Frolic, right next to Kevin’s Martini Bar.  I’ve posted about Kevin’s before. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re missing out!

Anyways, I’ve never had anything to complain about when it comes to Hilarities. It’s always a great time, good laughs and the staff keeps the cocktails coming. This particular trip just happened to be so-so, because the headliner wasn’t all that funny.  On top of that, I was the only one who ordered drinks out of my group…granted I was the only person under 45, LOL. (Don’t judge! My Mom is still a hottie!) Oh, and it was a little awkward listening to dirty, sexual jokes in front of my Aunt and Mother, but hey…we’re all human I guess. I got over the shyness when my Mom started elbowing me and laughing every time anything REMOTELY sex related was mentioned.

I have to admit that even though the headliner wasn’t really good, the feature comedian, Mike Lucas, was

hilarious! I meet him after the show too. That’s what is so great about going to these kinds of venues for live comedy. You can actually have a conversation with them afterwards.

Bottom line, Hilarities is a great time whether the headliner is humorous or not. Honestly. Just keep in mind that there is this confusing “two item” minimum when you order something. I just figured that if I ordered two dirty martinis, I’d be all set! :) Besides, after the show there are tons of awesome places to go on E4th. See my earlier post ;-)

Once again, the young professionals of this wonderful city of Cleveland cease to amaze me.  Somehow these extremely busy Case Western Biomedical Engineering grad students find the time to continuously lend their time and  generosity whenever it’s needed. Whether it be in our own city, country or around the world, these ambitious and kind-hearted individuals always find a fun way to bring people together for a great cause while having a fun time.

Come on out to B SIDE LOUNGE this Thursday night and help them make a difference over in Haiti.

PS…Something tells me that The Chef’s Widow would very much appreciate this effort! ;)

Cleveland Will Miss You and Your Flowers, Mr. Sarossy

Published by Cara Lageson under Bars, Causes, Life

Tibor Sarossy | The Flower Guy | Cleveland

I was so saddened to hear that the recent hit and run on W117th killed a very sweet man I’ve seen around the Warehouse District of Cleveland for years, Tibor Sarossy.  He was known as “The Flower Guy” to most of us who frequent the bars of this area, or just work at them. I’ve seen him countless times at The Map Room during shifts. He never drank, but would just come in to hang out with us. He was always giving flowers to our beautiful bartenders and making our patrons smile.

I just wanted to say how much I know we’ll miss you around the Map Room, Mr. Sarossy. Thank you for bringing happiness to the lives of so many around you. I know we’ll always smile when we think of you.

The full story is on cleveland.com and the picture is courtesy of them as well. Thank you for such a wonderful feature for us all to remember him by.  Also, thanks to Brittany Matthews for bring this to my attention.

Please feel free to leave your favorite memory of him!

The Map Room, Johnny Malloy’s (on the corner of W. 117th and Clifton), and other neighboring bars, will be collecting donations to help Tibor’s family in this hard time. Anything you can spare would be appreciated, and will help pay for his memorial.

C.L.E. Clothing – Representing Cleveland Right!

To be completely honest, I can’t begin to express how happy-excited-pumped-proud this local Cleveland company makes me. It’s literally hard to contain. Call me a groupie if you will…I confess I am, and darn proud to be.

If you haven’t checked out C.L.E. Clothing Co.‘ s shirts yet, I’m here today to save your life.

EVERY.CLEVELANDER.SHOULD.OWN.ONE.

END.OF.STORY.

To be perfectly clear, I have nothing to gain for shamelessly confessing my love for this company and in turn, promoting the heck out of them. It’s my pleasure. Not only are their ideas/designs/styles AWESOME, but they use American Apparel t-shirts. I’m pretty sure that if you love tees as much as I do AND you’re from Cleveland, life doesn’t get any better than that.

I was slow to discover this gem, I’ll admit. I also don’t know much about        C.L.E. Clothing Co. besides that it was started by two guys, who obviously had a great creative vision and made it happen.  Anyways, I saw a few of these            “I ‘basketball’ Cleveland” shirts floating

around and I started thinking to myself, “Those are fantastic, I NEED ONE”.  So, around Christmas time this year, I trolled the Internet and Twitter and finally found them. I ordered a shirt for my man first, then immediately called my sister who just moved to LA.  She was so excited about these shirts that I think she may have ordered 3 or 4 to be shipped all the way out in Cali.  Plus I ended up getting an awesome Browns one from my guy! Might I add that he didn’t know at the time that I had also purchased him one. Freaky, I know. :) Ordering was simple, I got my shirts fast, and I’ve been connecting with them via facebook and twitter (GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE).

So, please…do yourself a favor and check them out. Not only is this company inspirational, they also just give us another reason to be proud of our great city of Cleveland. REP’ OUR CITY! They also represent a local blogger of our own: Cleveland’s A Plum . Check out her t-shirts on their site and her blog!  Another perk: If you become a fan of C.L.E. on facebook, you’ll get to see their new shirt concepts and comment on them before they hit the store too!

***Oh, and beware of the imitators because they have a lot of them! There’s only one!

Yet Another Amazingly Blonde Perk of Twitter

Published by Cara Lageson under Bars, Cara, Life, restaurants

Since I joined the world of Twitter back a year or two ago, I’ve found nothing but great things about it. It’s helped my build out my Cleveland network bigger than I even imagined. I’ve promoted this blog and got some great momentum going (Thanks for the support, Tweeps!). Most importantly, I’ve made hundreds of new, smart, funny, witty, professional, inspirational friends that are as engaged in our lovely city as I am! I never expected that to happen, but I’m so glad to have them.

Just last night, I had a tweet-up with three amazing women (they just happened to be blonde :o ) I’m not biased, I swear!) who I’d never actually met before, but I knew

through our daily chatter via Twitter. I can’t tell you how much fun it was to get to know them. Kristen, Emily and Tammy were everything I’d hoped they’d be and more! To make it all the more interesting, all three women love to explore the city as much as I do.  Whether it’s restaurants, art, music, whatever, we all understand how many cultural and amazing things that Cleveland has to offer. Tammy was the only non-Cleveland native, but that made it even more fun to share tips and gems of C-town with her. :)

We decided to start the night at Bar Louie for happy hour cocktails, since it was close to our dinner destination, Paladar.  I’m never been the BIGGEST fan of Bar Louie, but then again I have nothing against it. They have great HH prices for

martinis and such. I can’t complain. Paladar was another story. I’ve been there once before and it was fun, but I wasn’t “WOW-ed” I guess. I had sat at the bar, which has a separate menu, and the food was pretty good. The restaurant has almost a chain restaurant feel, but it’s independent. This time around was a MUCH better experience!  We started with guacamole, which I’m ALWAYS a fan of. (I “heart” avocados) Then we all picked a different appetizer off the menu. The food was good, but the service was phenomenal.  Our server, Jill, was patient and friendly. I highly recommend you ask for her if you try this spot. The manager also came up to our table and talked to us about the food, gave us free ma-hi ma-hi tacos to try and even took multiple group pictures for us.  He was extremely concerned with our experience.  We even gave him some social media tips to help him out as well! :)

To bring it back full circle here, I really enjoyed my meal at Paladar with my new friends. The food was good and the company was fantastic. I’d definitely go back if someone planned a get-together or tweep-up there. Would I make an effort to back there on my own or on a date? Ehhh, doubtful. It definitely has a date-like feel to it though and I would recommend giving it a shot.

To my new friends, I can’t wait to get together again for #gnoCLE. For you non-twitter people, that’s “girls night out in Clevleand”. :) Feel free to adopt the hashtags!
