“Hot in Cleveland”…Really?

Published by Cara Lageson at 3:59 PM under Cara,Cleveland,Issues,TV

Yesterday I was informed that the  TV Land just picked up a potential new sitcom about, you guessed it, Cleveland.

Weird? I think it might be.

The pilot, called “Hot in Cleveland” and I guess it’s about 3 woman from LA who are misplaced in our lovely city. The article on cleveland.com says that they “love” their new home, but I wonder what image this show will REALLY portray of Cleveland.   Will it help us or hurt us? It makes me just a bit nervous.  I know how amazing our city is, but it’s obviously easier for people who don’t to judge us negatively (i.e. Forbes).

On top of that, it’s also not getting filmed here, but in LA. That seems odd to me because I’m sure it would be much cheaper to shoot it here.  Plus, if it’s about Cleveland, then why not?

Anyways, I’ll be sure to tune in, check out the pilot and see how well it does.  Who knows, it might be a huge flop, but I know I’m curious enough.  I didn’t get into a lot of the details about the show and cast, so check these sources for more info (or click on the images I posted to take you right to the articles):

I’m dying to know what you guys think about this too, so don’t be shy! Let me know!

cara, it’s actually ridiculously expensive and therefore financially inconvenient to film here- which is why studios rarely do it. the taxes are crazy high. exteriors are shot here but that’s about it.

If Betty White is gonna be on it than I’m all for it!

I’d imagine it’d be easier to control cost when shot in a studio….though the Cleve is trying to get better at being hosts to filmmakers….I can get behind it….though I won’t lie about being nervous about it as well…but then it’d be hard to imagine them being too blatantly mean to Cleveland on it….who knows…

I was all about this sitcom until I found out that the premise is that these three ladies decide to stay in Cleveland because in LA they are “middle aged and average” but in Cleveland they are glamorous and gorgeous. It is offensive! I’m very concerned that this will portray clevelanders as niave unfashionable midwesterners…that being said…I will check it out…and make my final judgement at that time.

I totally agree with you kittenkaboom…that’s exactly what’s making me nervous. Yes, there are a lot of fashion victims here in Cleveland, but we’re HARDLY ALL naive and clueless. I like to consider myself and my friends “in the know”. Plus, I always have that my sister is a fashion designer to protect me LOL.

We’ll have to see how the pilot goes…chances are, it will flop. The story line just doesn’t seem strong enough to me. And to be honest, if it does fail, GO RIDDANCE!
