Who Likes Discovering Local Cleveland Music? WIN TICKETS!

At Social Media Club Cleveland, I FINALLY met Kasey Crabtree, long-time radio DJ and fellow Cleveland-lover! She also loves music and was nice enough to give me some concert tickets to give away on iCarabout!

Now, I don’t know this band personally and I haven’t heard much of their music, BUT Kasey said they’re great!  If you like alternative rock and discovering local bands, then you’ll most likely enjoy VENDETTA POINT.  Plus, it’s always great to support the local talent in our great city of Cleveland! Am I right?

They’re playing at Peabody’s on Saturday, April 3.  I’ll give you all a little info about the band here, but I’m sure Kasey wouldn’t mind answering any questions you might have about their music either.

Each of the members of Vendetta Point have spent years with various bands throughout the local scenes learning for the most part what not to do. This time around hopefully we can learn from all of our mistakes and move forward. Music is the answer. That is what Vendetta Point believes, just make good music and everything else will take care of itself (almost).”

Their hometown is Cleveland, OH –

My First Social Media Club Meetup | Cleveland

As most of you know, I’ve been active on the social media front for a while now. I’ve been learning as I go and lots of people have been helping me along the way.

One thing that I recently did that I’m super pumped about is I joined Social Media Club Cleveland! I’ve been a member for a little over a month now, but just this past month was the first meeting I was able to attend. What makes it even better was that I went with Jason! It was almost like a twitter date or something LOL. (We’re such nerds…hehe! We were so excited to go together on a nerd-date)

The Cleveland Playhouse hosted this meet up, which was so cool, and it was BYOB! (beer, snacks and cupcakes = happiness) It was so great to be able to meet a lot of the people I interact with on an everyday basis online, but face to face. Plus there were new connections to be made! What a fantastic group of professional, fun-loving, intelligent and kind people!

I only got teased a few times for my massive amounts of retweeting, but most everyone was pleased with my intense love for the city of Cleveland. That was my proudest moment of the night.

Anyways, I CANNOT wait to attend more of these monthly events and to make connections with new people. Since this meeting was my first, I spent most of my time socializing and meeting people with Jason. I’m more of a social butterfly anyways.  Next time I’ll try to sit down at the round table discussions and learn some cool stuff. (Awesome that they offer that, right?!)

We’re so lucky to have such great people, groups and networking opportunities in this great city! If you’re curious about joining Social Media Club, or any other clubs that have more to do with your industry, DO IT!

PS…an after hours game of corn hole broke out at Goldstein Caldwell and Jason and I won! WOOT! (Sorry @jborger and Tom Fox!)

CIFF Voucher Winners on iCarabout | Cleveland

Since this was my first giveaway on iCarabout, I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to pick the winners! BUT WOW! It really was!

So, because I wanted to give the vouchers to everyone and was taking WAY TOO LONG to pick, I had my Mom help me out. I figured it was the best thing to do anyways since she’s totally unbiased. Once she made her top picks, I compared them with mine and here’s who we chose:

CONGRATS:

1) Mike B. — We both really liked what you had to say about Cleveland and your positive attitude about the culture/arts that this city has to offer. We agree that C-Town has a great sense of community and it’s only growing with wonderful festivals like CIFF.

2) Bob McT — Both my Mother and I felt for you as far as cutting back on certain things because of the economy. We also agreed that after hearing what you had to say, you and your wife BOTH deserve a wonderful night out to experience the amazing cultural experience of CIFF.

3) Kasey Crabtree — I think we can all sympathize with job searching these days, but as a fellow “broadcaster/journalist”, I REALLY UNDERSTAND. Having the passion and the dream of career in news is like saying you’re prepared to fight 200x harder for a job! UGH!  Also, it’s a semi-mild crime that you’ve never been to ONE CIFF!

So, there they are! The WINNERS! Please contact me ASAP and we’ll make plans to deliver you the tickets. My email is cara@icarabout.com or contact me via facebook/twitter!

Cleveland International Film Festival Voucher GIVE AWAY!

Alrighty!

I KNOW that the Cleveland International Film Festival starts today and all, BUT Cedar Lee Theater just gave me some vouchers to give away! WOOT!

So, here’s the deal! I have 3 sets of two vouchers. I already got my two for Jason and I to go, but I wanted to give some other cool iCarabout readers a chance to grab some too.

Cleveland International Film Festival | iCarabout.com | Voucher Give-away

How about this… I want to give away the vouchers to someone who is going to really USE them and ENJOY them. I also really want your feedback afterwards. This means that you’d get a chance to write a quick review that I’d post up on my iCarabout. You’d be like a guest blogger!

I’ll decide the winners of the 3 sets based on the reasons you give me for wanting to go CIFF and/or why you want to write your review for iCarabout! Please post your comments below and top 3 will be chosen!

Now– like I said, I realize that the film festival starts today. That means that this will have to go kind of quickly! Leave your reasons, I’ll pick the best of the best and then I’ll personally get your vouchers to you ASAP (either by meeting you somewhere or sending them via courier).

Have fun!

Monday Movie Nights in Cleveland at Cedar Lee Theatre

I’m pretty sure that when Monday night rolls around, most of us aren’t really looking for a crazy night out.  At least I know Jason and I are not! Plus, most of us have spent enough money going out over the past weekend and really aren’t looking to blow a lot more dough.

BUT that doesn’t mean that a Monday date night is a bust!  Have you ever visited Cedar Lee Theatre for their $5 Monday Movie Nights?

Umm, yes…total winner right here. You can’t even see a movie for that cheap during a matinée! (Or can you? I haven’t been to a movie that early in years).  Plus, its the perfect “chill” atmosphere for a date early in the week, and cure for “a case of the Mondays” !

Added bonus: They show a lot of indie films that aren’t shown at many other theaters in Cleveland.  But, they certainly aren’t limited to just those flicks either. Cedar Lee has more well known movies too! For instance, I saw Slumdog Millionaire there when it first came out.

So, I’ve known about this not-so-well-kept secret in Cleveland for a while (I lived in CLE Heights), but Jason had never been! Plus, he loves Jeff Bridges (THE DUDE!) and wanted to see Crazy Heart.  We were pleased to see that they offered very convenient show times, so we picked the 9:40pm one (latest showing).  Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, I forgot that they served beer and wine! Nothing is better than being about to bring your favorite local beer into a great movie! :)

We grabbed our drinks, headed into the movie, all the while appreciating the old/antique vibe of the theater itself. Long story short, it was a great show and an even better Monday date night activity! If you haven’t taken advantage of this East-side treasure, please do soon. You can also follow @CedarLeeTheatre on twitter and hear about their daily deals and such!

Jason and I will be back for sure. :) Especially since he mentioned that it would be an awesome Monday tradition to start.

One last thing, if you’re looking for cheaper, tasty eats BEFORE your flick in the Cedar Lee District, try Tavern Co.  It’s just down the street and they have a $5 Burger & Beer Monday special that ROCKS! You’ll never believe what you get for just five bucks…seriously. Check it out!
